Residential Area and School Kirchwerder Hamburg

1st prize in the urban planning-free space planning workshop process. In the outer district of Kirchwerder, between the old cultivated landscape of Vierlande and Marschlande in the east, the existing residential area of “Karkenland” in the north, and the more scattered properties to the west, plans for a new residential district and neighbourhood school are in progress. The aim of the competition is to develop innovative and ecological forms of accommodation that are consistent with the landscape-dominated structure of the surroundings. The concept of the design unites the openness of the landscape structure with the village feel of Kirchwerder. While in the north a new development of small and individually designed residential buildings is planned close to the existing residential development, the school building and sports hall are placed next to the infrastructural facilities in the south of the territory. To the east of the district, wide views of the adjoining cultivated landscape of Vierlande and Marschlande are planned. The distinguishing “green corridor” connects the different areas as well as offering residents play and recreational space. In cooperation with G2 Landschaft.
