Hotel Westerland Sylt

A new three-storey hotel building is being constructed in the centre of Westerland in the immediate vicinity of Sylt’s main train station. The design responds to the surrounding heterogeneous buildings with a clearly defined structure whose roof shape, eaves height and materiality are influenced by the surrounding historical buildings. The roof surface of the new building is also characterized by integrated loggias, a typical design feature of thatched roof houses on the island of Sylt. The full storeys on the first and second levels and the staggered storey on the upper level accommodate different room types with a total of 62 units, including six accessible rooms and one wheelchair-accessible room. The first floor facade is structured on the street side by regularly arranged mullion and transom openings. In addition to the hotel areas such as the foyer, lobby and restaurant, four commercial units are housed here, which are accessed directly via the public, street-side space and enliven the street area. The two basement levels house bicycle and car parking spaces as well as technical areas, storage and ancillary rooms for commercial use.
