BAUHAUS – Fachcentrum Düsseldorf

The construction of a new BAUHAUS DIY store with a sales area almost 19.000 m2 square meters, a city garden and a ‘Drive-in Arena’ is under construction in the commercial area of Düsseldorf-Rath. Working closely with BAUHAUS and the responsible local government bodies, including Düsseldorf’s planning authorities, was vital during the development of the construction plan. The design is based upon a concept developed by DFZ Architekten for BAUHAUS in Bremen in 2009 and since implemented in both Bremen and Hamburg. The facade cladding consists of red aluminum panels with a three-dimensional imprint of the company’s house motif logo. Applied in four different sizes, an image of the company logo in large format emerges on the facade when seen from a distance. This interplay with distance and proximity reinforces the company’s identity in an abstract way, strengthening the corporate brand and making the building instantly recognisable.
