Office Building at Hafentor Hamburg

Invited design competition with six participants. The Körber Foundation intends to build its headquarters at a prominent location at the St. Pauli Landungsbrücke. Appearing as a three-dimensional moulded ‘solitaire’, the office building at Hafentor has a strong and self-evident presence in the heterogeneous urban space at the foot of the ‘geest’ slope. The upper structure has a dynamic, slim form and is mounted on a three-storey base with a natural stone facade. To the rear the crystalline structure, encased with large ‘Tombak’ panels, is securely fixed to the base, while at the front it floats over the base with its tapered shape pointing towards the Elbe.
