The new replacement building for the primary school on Koggenweg is based on the principles of sustainability, community, creativity, inclusion and concilience. These values characterise the design concept of the new building with its learning and play worlds and are intended to contribute to positive social development. The school grounds are located in the outer Lübeck district of Buntekuh and will be expanded from a three-form entry school to a five-form entry school as part of the realisation competition. A new building is planned for this purpose, which will be positioned as a striking solitary structure on Buntekuhweg and will blend in with the heterogeneous surroundings. The deliberate integration of the existing trees and a ‘green framework’ will create a lively campus. The schoolyard is organised by a central, open area that ensures intuitive accessibility and lines of sight. Play areas, an activity strip and a learning and experimental garden promote the children’s motor skills and environmental awareness. External escape staircases and surrounding balconies lend the building a floating lightness, while the timber construction and green façade emphasise the sustainable concept. A play of light and shadow enhances the natural timber look, which is complemented by accents in green and red pastel colours. The three-storey building is characterised by clear structures, short distances and bright rooms. In the centre is a large play staircase, which serves as a lounge and spectator stand. Common rooms on the ground floor and flexible multi-purpose areas on the upper floors encourage communication and creativity. The music hall, the flexible school library and possible access to the roof offer additional versatility. The load-bearing timber construction combines ecological quality with flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Modular façades, energy-efficient building services and the use of renewable energies minimise the ecological footprint. The concept takes into account the entire life cycle of the building – from material procurement to utilisation and dismantling. The contribution was developed together with G2 Landschaft.
