Sports Hall, Reuchlin Grammar School Ingolstadt

A new sports hall is constructed at the Reuchlin grammar school in Ingolstadt as part of a general refurbishment. Due to lack of space at the school’s site, it is constructed on the grounds of the neighbouring primary and secondary school  “Auf der Schanz”. Auf der Schanz was built as a pavilion school in the 1950s and has been a listed building since 2006. The new sports hall is located in the northeast of the school grounds, on the former sports field, and, in order to preserve the pavilion-like, open structure of the surrounding buildings and the overall picture of the listed school ensemble, is lowered about three meters into the ground. The lower area houses the gym, illuminated by a ribbon window on the ground floor, the changing rooms and an equipment room. The above-ground area is reduced to an entrance area and the air space above the sports hall and, with its anodised aluminum facade, adjoins the ensemble in an irregular grid.
