New build Alte Bäckerei Hamburg

A four-storey new build with staggered floor is under construction in Hamburg-Horn for “Das Rauhe Haus”, a charitable foundation offering supported living and education for disabled people. The park-like terrain, with small lake and extensive tree cover, houses administrative and care facilities, a nursing home and school, as well as a university of applied sciences. The planned new building – consisting of two blocks – aims to strengthen the foundation’s presence in the surrounding public area and to create an inviting entrance to the foundation grounds from Horner Weg. Thus the two building blocks are arranged inside each other in order to open the space to the street. The cafeteria on the ground floor, with its floor-to-ceiling glass facade reinforces the open nature of the building and offers space for employees, residents from various foundation areas and neighbours to meet. The arrangement of the metal panels, constructed in three sizes, creates a lively facade behind which are 23 accessible living units.
