Forum Freies Theater Düsseldorf

The former post office building on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz in Düsseldorf is being converted into a cultural centre. In addition to other cultural facilities, a new performance venue is being created for the Forum Freies Theater in Düsseldorf. On the first floor, together with an auditorium for 235 visitors, there will be two rehearsal stages, a spacious foyer with restaurant and cloakroom, as well as rooms for theater operations and administration. The design concept is based on the readability of the existing reinforced concrete skeleton. This existing structure is thematised and supplemented by clear, reserved fixtures. A second level, accessed through the foyer, extends the auditorium in the form of a gallery. In order to meet the needs of the theatre business and ist various formats, performances and events, the foyer area is also planned as an additonal event space, in addition to the flexible auditorium. The project is being realised together with Meyer Architekten from Düsseldorf.
