Office Building at Alstertor Hamburg

A listed office and administration building, built in the middle of the 19th century, is completely renovated and extended. Located directly at the ‘Binnenalster’, it joins with the building opposite to form the so-called Alstertor, in close proximity to the Thalia Theatre and Mönckebergstrasse. The existing historic facade with punch windows remains fully intact and is complemented on one side by an extended contemporary facade and with a roof extension on the sixth floor. With the exposure of the historic facade, the office building, rebuilt in the 1980s, regains its original appearance. The two-storied shopping area on the ground floor, the neighbouring,  simple yet high quality extension and the expressive roof extension frame the facade of the old building and, with the exciting juxtaposition of old and new, lend it a distinctive identity.
