1st prize in the invited workshop procedure for construction site III. In a central location, along the Hamburg-Altona railway lines, the new Mitte Altona quarter is being built on a former freight station. The master plan for “Mitte Altona” provides for the development of a vibrant, family-friendly, mixed neighbourhood. In accordance with the master plan requirements, the five-storey residential building is planned as part of a perimeter block development and awarded the 1st prize in the course of a workshop process. The exterior of the building is dominated by tightly arranged, perforated facades with differentiated brick surfaces, creating a peaceful, harmonious and distinctive appearance. Thus, the building adds to its surroundings, projecting a strong and confident image without competing with its neighbouring buildings. The recess on the ground floor provides a distinctive entranceway and indicates the intended shared use of this area. The floor plans of the apartments are largely based on an open-plan design principle. Each apartment will have at least two outdoor areas in the form of balconies on the courtyard side and loggias on the street side.
