Vocational Schools Wolfsburg

Limited competition. The existing building structure of the vocational schools is extended in its geometry and structural layout. The character and increased importance of the existing structure are preserved and transformed into a completely innovative building in terms of its potential use. A newly created entrance leads from the likewise newly created forecourt into a spacious foyer area in the school building. Old and new buildings are openly connected on the ground floor and unite to form a spacious access area. The visitor area can be extended by sliding the facade to open it out to the forecourt. The whole of the 1st floor is used for school administration. All new classrooms are located on the 2nd and 4th floors. Open zones create additional recreation areas within a compact and efficiently organized floor plan. The design of the facade is largely based on that of the existing building. The original grid facade is replicated in the new building and is structured by windows based on the existing model.
